Le château de Lunéville est une demeure des ducs de Lorraine depuis le XIIIe siècle, d’abord occasionnelle puis officielle à partir du XVIIIe siècle. Il est construit pour le duc Léopold Ier entre 1703 et 1720 sur des plans de Pierre Bourdict, Nicolas Dorbay et Germain Boffrand sans l’aile nord par faute de moyens, lui laissant sa forme actuelle, dissymétrique.
