Der Spitzenstein ist ein 417 m ü. NHN hoher Berg im Hunsrück, wo dieser als Südöstlicher Rheinhunsrück steil ins Obere Mittelrheintal bei St. Goar abfällt. Er erhebt sich östlich von Urbar und nördlich von Niederburg, die beide als Ortsgemeinde der Verbandsgemeinde Sankt Goar-Oberwesel im Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis angehören.
Die Burg Herzogenstein, auch Rheineck – seinerzeit R(h)ineck genannt – ist eine mittelalterliche, nie vollendete Höhenburg in Spornlage aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, die sich fünf Kilometer südwestlich von Bornich auf der rechtsrheinischen Anhöhe, dem Roßstein nahe dem Dorf Dörscheid im Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rheinland-Pfalz, erhob.
