Tundra Camp
Stein Valley Nlaka'pamux Heritage Park is a remote wilderness heritage park located west of Lytton in British Columbia's Thompson region, protecting the entire Stein River watershed. The valley spans elevations from 220 to 2,954 meters, transitioning from dry interior to coastal mountain terrain with spectacular scenery and outstanding historical, cultural, and spiritual values. It is a backcountry-only area managed cooperatively by BC Parks and the Lytton First Nation, requiring complete self-sufficiency. What type of accommodations are available?
Backcountry camping only. Designated campsites include Logjam, Mid-Canyon, Stein Lake, and Tundra Lake camps, each equipped with bear-proof food caches and backcountry toilets. There are no cabins, lodges, or developed facilities.
Are vehicles allowed in the park?
No. Vehicles including cars, 4x4s, ATVs, mountain bikes, snowmobiles, helicopters, and float-planes are banned throughout the park. Access is by foot only.
Can I have a campfire?
No. Campfires are strictly prohibited. Visitors must use camp stoves for cooking.
What about pets?
Dogs must remain on leash at all times and are unsuitable for backcountry use due to bear encounter risks. Dogs are discouraged.
